Gamenerdery

I wanted to introduce Space Invaders to these younger gamers, and decided a good way to go about it would be to create a single game that traced the entire evolution of the shooter genre, from the original Space Invaders up to the latest advancements in the genre.

— Space Invaders Infinity Gene director Reisuke Ishida, speaking to FingerGaming. Ishida seems to have succeeded in his stated goal: the game certainly does feel like it gradually evolves from Space Invaders into a more contemporary “bullet hell” type game.

Evony Vs. Zombies

Excellent parody advert from Popcap for their game Plants Vs. Zombies aimed at (of all things) the infamous adverts for the game Evony (as best summed up by Jeff Atwood).

This is the first ad they’ve done, and there’s also a second here. Quite an excellent morning laugh I’d say…

A rather tummy screenshot of a WIP Legend of Zelda remake in which you play from a 3rd Person Perspective.

The demo is only a small snippet of gameplay, but it certainly has promise :)

Worth checking out in my opinion… even if it’s something you’ll play through rather quickly…

Free Daggerfall!

Nice job by Bethesda - now adding the second Elder Scrolls game Daggerfall to the list of freebies (joining the first game Arena) they make available to the public.

It’s an oldie (so you need DOSBox to get it going), but if you’re an RPG fan, it’s worth dusting it off for a playthrough…

Another day, another demake. In this case, none other than Portal… and this time, done in text mode.

Looks like it might be an interesting diversion regardless…

Arcade Game Exposure Shots

A series of photographs taken playing several early 80’s arcade games with a long exposure time. The resulting photographs are quite trippy in some regard…

iPhone Doom Classic Development Notes

A few notes from John Carmack about the progress (as well as some of the technical hurdles) on bringing Doom over to the iPhone platform.

Quite interesting from a development perspective in terms of what’s needed in translating a game over (technical as well as design hurdles).

An awesome vector version of the loading screen to the C64 version of Arkanoid.

One of many which the guys over at the Daily Rodent have been putting up recently (most of them are from C64 games, with the occasional one or two from the Spectrum versions instead).
